Objectives and aims of the group 
To support each other by sharing information and ideas. To Empower parents of children on the Autistic Spectrum, thus promoting positive thoughts and outcomes.
For everyone to leave the group with a positive outlook by drawing on each others personal experiences and strengths.
 
  • Web Link ADHD Smart Northamptonshire

    ADHD Smart is an independent consultancy based in Northamptonshire. My services offer information, advice, bespoke training and coaching for families and carers and also for educational settings and community groups.

    ADHD Smart can offer advice on all aspects of ADHD and its associated conditions. These include things such as Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Autistic Spectrum Conditions, Challenging Behaviours and Sleep Advice.  I also offer mentoring and guidance individually on such things as Building Self Esteem in children and Anger Management, Behaviour Management from a holistic and organic approach.

    Using a holistic approach means that ADHD Smart focuses on the whole person and not just the condition. Any support required is worked around your individual needs, preferences, values, and lifestyle. The aim is to give you the skills to overturn the obstacles of ADHD symptoms into opportunities for personal, professional or academic growth.

    Autism Concern is a charity in Northamptonshire which provides support and options to people affected by all forms of autism in gaining independence and control of their lives.

  • Web Link The Local Offer Northamptonshire

    Local Offer publishes services available for children and young people (aged 0-25) with special educational needs and disabilities.

    What does the Local Offer do?

    The Local Offer:

    • improves choice and transparency for families
    • helps professionals to understand the range of services and provision available locally
    • improves joint commissioning arrangements for services by setting out in a single place what is available locally

    We are working together with children and young people, parents and carers and with local services, including the voluntary and community sector, to develop our offer and keep it under review. The Shooting Stars group support the Local Offer with advice and guidance and proof read our easy read guides.

  • Web Link Family Fund

    Give grants for things that make life easier and more enjoyable for the disabled child and their family, such as washing machines, driving lessons, hospital visiting costs, computers and holidays.

  • Web Link Information Advice Service for SEND IASS

    Northamptonshire’s Information, Advice and Support Service is a statutory service which is run at ‘arm’s length’ from the Local Authority and provides free, confidential, impartial advice, guidance and support to parents of children with special educational needs and children and young people with SEND.

    It aims to promote good working relationships between children, young people, parents, education settings and the LA, whilst seeking to empower them to play an active and informed role in their child’s education. 

    We can support parents, carers, children and young people in a number of ways. We provide a range of flexible services which include training, access to Independent Supporters on request, referral to other statutory and voluntary agencies, access to local and national support groups, telephone support and face to face meetings.

    The Autistic Outreach Team are part of a wider service in the county which assist schools with the inclusion of pupils with additional or special educational needs. They also help with behavioural difficulties at home.

  • Web Link Autism Education Trust

    The Autism Education Trust (AET) was launched in November 2007 with funding from the Department for Children, Schools and Families. It is dedicated to co-ordinating and improving education support for all children on the autism spectrum in England.

    Families in Partnership support all families of people with a severe learning disability and complex needs.

  • Web Link The Autism Directory

    The Autism Directory is an online resource run by parents with autistic children and was created so that parents would not feel that they are alone. It aims to pull together all the information that is out there and signpost autism families to the help they need.

    Representing Parents and Carers through inclusive effective participation and collaboration

     Our mission is to achieve positive changes for families of children and young people with additional special needs up to the age of 25 in Northamptonshire. By engaging constructively with Local Authorities in strategic and service planning, working in partnership we can ensure a better understanding and outcome for all concerned.

  • Web Link DISC

    DISC stands for Disability Inclusive Sports Club. We are a voluntary group which is run by parents and carers of people with disabilities.

    DISC welcomes all children and adults with special needs and their families.

    There is a small sessional charge, which includes sports and swimming, of £3.00 per member or £6.00 for a family ticket.

    We meet up at the Towcester Centre for Leisure on Sundays.

    Very little has been done in the way of research into how ASD presents in girls, but it's becoming more apparent that they are very different to boys. Many girls aren't diagnosed until they reach puberty, and our page supports and shares advice on how to deal with our very special children.

    Autism Concern Facebook group. This is a closed group to protect your privacy.

    We post all the latest info here first. You can have your say, share information, ask questions, and chat to other parents about all the issues that are important to you, in a safe space, where no-one is judging you and where you will get support you need, available 24/7.

    Brand New NICE Guidelines for the management of children with Autism.

    Published August 2013. Very Interesting reading, may be quite controversial in what interventions it says should not be used.
